I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessings.

Ezekiel 34:26b

In a few weeks, my niece will get married. During the last six months, three of my cousins have become engaged. A friend announced her engagement just a few months ago. These days my Facebook and Pinterest feeds are awash with wedding posts and plans.

Yes, yes. It’s definitely beginning to look a lot like wedding season!

I’m happy for my friends and family members who have found the one they love. It’s a beautiful thing. Weddings are on the schedule, and I will joyfully celebrate with these special people in my life.

But let’s face it, for those of us who have been perpetually single, these times can be hard. Years ago — unless we were involved in the wedding in some form — we often didn’t hear all the details leading up to it. These days though, every time we open our Facebook or Pinterest, it can be fresh salt in the wound. We can be tempted to wallow in the question, “Why not me?”

I recently found this verse in Ezekiel 34:26b: “I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessings.” It made me stop and think about my unending season of singleness. At times when so many around us are getting engaged and married, it’s easy to forget that God blesses us in our own season.

Our single blessings are different from what our friends may enjoy. For my niece, God’s sent a season of preparation and excitement as she joins her life with her love and his daughter. For me, God is showering me with a new purpose for the next season of my life. Our seasons are different, but He is there with His showers of mercy, grace and love.
