Tired or Stressed? God Will Do What You Cannot

on April 9, 2014

The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.
                                                 — 1 Thessalonians 5:24, NIV

The alarm clock rang at 5:30 a.m. It was cold and dark. I had no real incentive to get up—except for the fact that I was in charge of morning devotions in less than half an hour. I sat on the edge of my bunk bed in a cabin thousands of miles from home and, still weary from jet lag, prayed for the new day.

I was heading up the prayer team on a short-term mission trip in the Czech Republic. And for most of our weeklong stay, I was cold, tired and not feeling well. Nevertheless, God showed up every day. He gave me the energy I needed when I was exhausted from a series of early mornings and late nights (and a roommate who snored and kept me awake). God gave me the desire and ability to pray for people I’d never met, and to serve Him with joy!

How wonderful it is to know that God is powerful, loving and strong. He does what we cannot do! Each new day, God pours His life, light and power into weak and weary human beings so others can see God’s power at work, not ours.

When you feel stressed or depleted, know that the One who calls you to do a task (or job, or ministry project, or something else) will also empower you. “The Lord is faithful to His promises and loving to all He has made” (Psalm 145:13, NIV). He is with you and at work in you.

God will never let you down. On that you can rely.

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness to me. I choose to trust in Your wisdom, love and power to do what I cannot do. Pour Your strength in me today, so I can love well and make a difference in the world for Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
