Seeking God First Thing in the Morning

on April 1, 2014

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

My friend Wendy has a cat that keeps her awake if she’s in the room with her at night. So, each night the bedroom door is closed and ZuZu spends the night alone in the living room. Each morning when the bedroom door opens, ZuZu runs to Wendy and puts her paws up, begging to be picked up. She missed her momma all night and wants to be close. Once Wendy picks her up, ZuZu will snuggle in with her head under Wendy’s chin and purr contentedly.

This morning in church as we sang about lifting our hands high in praise to God, I had a vision of ZuZu lifting her paws up to Wendy because she had been away from her all night long. It made me wonder why I don’t run to God and do the same thing when I get up in the morning.

Instead, I wake to the alarm and my first thoughts are of what the day will bring and the things that need my attention. I don’t think of God — I am off and running to other things.

We have a wonderful heavenly Father who longs for the type of relationship with us that ZuZu has with her momma. He longs for us to come running in the morning and lift our hands to Him. How much better our life would go if we climbed into the lap of our Father and snuggled under His chin each morning, listening to His heart before we jumped into the day.
